Activision announces Call of Duty: Next, a showcase event for the franchise

The video game giant will reveal the future of the Call of Duty franchise on September 15.

Activision and Infinity Ward announced a new showcase event focused on the Call of Duty franchise following the conclusion of Call of Duty League Championship Weekend 2022. The showcase event is called Call of Duty: Next and will take place on September 15.

The US-based video game firm calls it an “era-defining franchise event” and says it will feature rich information about the franchise’s future, live gameplay, and more. The company says Call of Duty: Next will mainly reveal details from the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 and share more information on the mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone (Project Aura).

Fans will also get to experience Modern Warfare II’s multiplayer for the first time with live gameplay via popular CoD streamers. The gaming entity also hints at rewards and more important info drops but doesn’t go into specifics.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer Open Beta dates revealed

The latest installment in Activision’s highly popular CoD franchise, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28 across PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S. However, fans will get to experience Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer a little earlier before the launch; those who preordered the game digitally, at retail, or received beta invitations will gain early access to open beta.

The first open beta weekend will be exclusive to PlayStation users. PlayStation users with early access codes can enjoy the open beta on September 16-17, then the beta will be open to all PlayStation players for free from 18 September to 20 September. PS players can access the beta without a PlayStation Plus subscription.

The crossplay beta early access will kick off on September 22 and will be exclusive on September 23 as well. From September 24 to 26, the beta will be open to all players across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Xbox players must have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to enjoy the open beta, meanwhile, PC players will need a Battle.net or Steam account. Players who join the open beta will also get free content for Call of Duty: Vanguard and Warzone.

Activision hit its quarterly goals during the three-month period that ended on June 30, 2022, only a handful of video game companies posted positive numbers during the post-lockdown era. The company will be purchased by Microsoft within this fiscal year, provided all regulators worldwide approve the acquisition.
