Azra Games raises $15 million for its first game.

Established to develop blockchain games, Azra Games announced that it had raised $15 million from its seed funding round. The funding will be used for Project Arcanas, Azra Games’ first play-and-earn game.

The investment tour was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), who made a name for himself with his investments. NFX, Coinbase Ventures, Play Ventures, and Franklin Templeton were also among the investors. Mark Otero was one of the critical reasons why Azra Games was able to attract the attention of investors with his first game. Senior game designer Otero, Co-Founder, and CEO of Azra Games, had previously been involved in 8 game projects. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is among these games, which has earned over a billion dollars in revenue.

Mark Otero was previously the Co-Founder and CEO of KlickNation. Later, the company was acquired by Electronic Arts (EA), and Otero continued his career at EA. Otero, who worked at EA for about four years, recently took his place among the founders of Azra Games. He also held high ranks at financial services companies like Franklin Templeton Investments and Alice Capital.

Regarding Project Arcanas, Otero said:

“As a kid, I spent countless hours role-playing with all of my different toys. At Azra, we are making a game to recreate this joy, to re-engage adults’ imaginations once again with the ultimate collectibles fantasy, combined with the ultimate fast-paced mix-and-match combat that is accessible yet deeply strategic.Imagine role-playing giant monsters, robots, and creatures, and leading your favorite heroes and villains to battle – and on top of satisfying game sessions, a vibrant marketplace and a sustainable economy based on the real value that only web3 can unlock to deliver the most compelling and complete play experience.”

Noting the experience of Andreessen Horowitz’s General Partner Jonathan Lai Otero, he added:

“CEO Mark Otero is a seasoned game director who was at the forefront of mobile free-to-play games with the hit franchise Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. We’re excited to partner with Mark and the Azra team as they apply their expertise to Web3 games in creating new types of gameplay and economy design.”
