Ubisoft’s golden goose is due another entry, according to a leak that surfaced on YouTube by a content creator dubbed j0nathan. Per this leak, the new game will be called Assasin’s Creed Mirage and will see the fan favorite Basim as the main hero of the story. The story will explore how Loki manifested Basim’s body and “consumed him”.

Most of j0nathan’s claims are backed by the industry expert and journalist Jason Schreier as well. Schreier said “A person familiar tells me parts of this new Assassin’s Creed leak are true (such as the name and the other stuff Bloomberg has already reported: spring 23, Baghdad, back to AC basics) and other parts are not (“multiple cities to explore”).” on his Twitter account.

The YouTuber claims Ubisoft will unveil the future of the series on September 10, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released in Spring 2023. The game will take place between 860 and 870 in Baghdad. The main playable character will be Basim in his youth and gameplay will have the original series as a reference point, rather than the last three entries.

The last two entries to the franchise offered players the ability to pick the gender for their character, however, since Basim is an established character, there won’t be any gender choices this time around. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey provided players with two choices, either to play as Alexios or Kassandra (they’re siblings) and in Valhalla, the main hero of the story, Eivor, could be played as either male or female, and players were allowed to change their character’s gender at any given time.

A fan favorite feature in the older games, Eagle Vision, will also return, but pet birds —which are acting as modern-day drones basicallyë are here to stay as well.

The leak also claims an Assassin’s Creed Remake (the original game), which will be bundled with the game’s season pass and is set to release months after.

Ubisoft’s future and upcoming projects

The share value of the French video game giant reached an all-time high in July 2018 at €102.95, but Ubisoft shares have seen a steady decline since then, now averaging around €40 to €45, depending on several factors. The shareholders of the company are open to an acquisition and reportedly Tencent is interested in buying the majority share of Ubisoft.

It’s been nearly two years since a new Assassin’s Creed game was launched, and while Valhalla has seen several story expansions, it just didn’t help much to bolster Ubisoft’s financial situation.

Despite all the setbacks, the French gaming entity is quite positive about the future and rumor has it it is to announce a new Assassin’s Creed mobile game this September. The gaming giant will release multiple trailers for its upcoming games and fans are eager to see what’s been cooking at Ubisoft, especially after going through a period with little to no content.
