Unity’s financial results for 2021 have been released. Despite the losses, the company grew 44% year over year. Unity revenues rose from $772.4 million in 2020 to $1.1 billion in 2021.

Operate Solutions provided the majority of revenues during the year. The Operate Solutions division covers Unity’s revenue from in-app purchases and advertising. Annual revenue provided by Operate Solutions was announced as approximately $709.1 million. The Create Solutions division generated $326.6 million, and “Strategic Partnerships and Other” revenues generated $74.8 million. Create Solutions is the division within Unity that is responsible for the Unity game engine.

Unity didn’t just make a profit during the year. Financial losses were also included in the published financial report. According to this information, Unity lost $531.7 million in 2021. This loss corresponds to 48% of the total revenue. The financial loss announced by the company in 2020 was approximately $274.8 million. During 2021, Unity’s losses increased, as did its revenues. The company attributes these losses to an increase in share-based compensation expense.

A similar dynamism to Unity’s year-round income and loss statement was also valid for the 4th quarter of 2021. During the quarter, the company generated a revenue of $315 million. Revenue in the same quarter of 2020 was approximately $220 million, with a 43% year-over-year increase in the quarter.

Unity has also signed many acquisitions in the past period. For example, the company recently acquired Ziva Dynamics for an undisclosed sum. A few months before this transaction, Unity acquired Weta Digital for $1.6 billion.
