The government of the Canadian province of Ontario has announced that it has launched a $1 million scholarship program to support young people and the industry who want to rise in esports.
Within the scope of the scholarship program, financial assistance will be provided to people who receive esports training necessary for careers in game design, development, marketing, and innovation industry-related fields. The first scholarship payments of the scholarship program will be made in the fall of 2022.
Ontario Minister of Colleges and Universities Jill Dunlop said:
“As the first province in Canada to recognize the educational value of esports design and development in this way, we will support students who are building skills that can lead to discoveries, innovation, training opportunities, and economic benefits for Ontario.
This investment will help students pursue their passion, prepare for careers in the highly lucrative video game and esports industry, and develop transferable skills valued by employers across countless industries.”
After the scholarship program, esports activities in the state are expected to gain momentum. The government aims to support young people who will be active in the fields of “design, development, innovation, and marketing.”
