Minecraft, which already boasts the title of being the best-selling video game of all time, has shattered another record today. The game has reached an astonishing milestone by selling over 300 million copies.
Mojang Studios proudly announced the significant achievement of selling 300 million copies during the Minecraft Live event. This event not only celebrated the monumental sales milestone but also provided Minecraft fans with a glimpse of exciting new features awaiting them in the game.
Helen Chiang, head of Mojang Studios, said, “As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 300 million copies sold, a milestone no one could have dreamed of when we were all placing our first blocks.”
Among the unveiled features is a trial chamber, offering players an immersive experience as they navigate through a series of rooms and corridors filled with traps and menacing mobs. This dynamic addition promises to enhance the gaming experience for Minecraft aficionados.
Mojang Studios also revealed plans for upcoming downloadable content (DLC), Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC, on November 7. Additionally, a Planet Earth DLC is currently in development and is slated for release early next year.
Minecraft Live also announced the mob vote winner. The Armadillo has claimed its place as the next mob to join the enchanting world of Minecraft, earning the most community votes in a thrilling decision-making process. The Armadillo, a denizen of the savannah biome, offers a unique twist to the game. When startled, this new mob will cleverly curl up into a charmingly blocky ball, adding an element of surprise and intrigue to player interactions. The Armadillo also brings an enticing resource to the table – the scute, which players can use to craft a novel type of armor known as “wolf armor.”
Minecraft was first made available to the public in its early stages of development as an alpha version on May 17, 2009. It allowed players to purchase and play the game as it continued to be developed. Minecraft was officially released on November 18, 2011.
