EA Sports is already on the hunt for club and player licences.

EA Games (Electronic Arts) filed its 2022 report with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), but the publisher omitted the revenue figures coming from its highly successful Ultimate Team modes.

It’s a bit tricky to comment on why the publisher decided against sharing the figures in the SEC report. Throughout the report, EA brags about how profitable the Ultimate Team mode (helmed by FIFA soon to be EA Sports FC) is, but not a single figure is shared this time around, contrary to the last year’s filing.

Omitting of Ultimate Team revenue figures was caught by Stephen Totilo of Axios, thanks for the heads up. The Ultimate Team is a live service mode that lets you build your dream squad either in FIFA or Madden mainly. However, building your dream squad either requires extreme grinding or spending a lot of money on packs (loot boxes), but even then getting your hands on the players you want is not a guaranteed thing.

Ultimate Team is growing year over year

The nearly three-decade-long partnership between EA and FIFA comes to an end.

The game mode has been growing rather fast, the company took $1.6 billion in revenue from Ultimate Team, making up 29% of EA’s business last fiscal year. The publisher recently pushed Apex Legends Mobile, and the game’s mobile version earned almost $5M in its first week topping the charts in multiple countries.

It’s hard not to address the elephant in the room, given how the game mode has been growing year on year. EA may be keeping the numbers hidden for the time being while FIFA is undergoing a name change.

EA will take part in Summer Games Fest 2022, while we most likely won’t hear a thing about the financial side of things the publisher may reveal multiple trailers for its upcoming games.
