German-Austrian video game company Plaion, formerly known as Koch Media, restructures to drop three of its firms and merge into a single company. According to Gamesindustry.biz, Deep Silver, Prime Matter and Ravenscourt will publish all associated titles under the Plaion brand.

The restructuring and merger are described as “simplifying our publishing operations” by a company representative. Deep Silver was established in 2002 as a video game publishing division. Ravenscourt was founded in 2014 as game development division and Prime Matter opened in 2021 as a new publishing division, operating from its Munich headquarters.

Deep Silver just released Dead Island 2, which has sold over 1 million copies in three days. Deep Silver also had success with the IP’s like Metro series and Saint’s Row. Ravenscourt focuses on more family-friendly games, while Prime Matter is mainly focused on indie games.

GamesIndustry.biz also learned that a handful of layoffs are expected as part of the merger plans. The merger will take place in the next 12-24 months. Milestone and Vertigo Games, other subsidiaries of Plaion, may not be included in the merge since neither company is mentioned.

The media company Koch Media rebranded itself as Plaion last year. Koch Media’s parent company, Koch Media Holding, was acquired by the Swedish Embracer Group in February 2018.
