ByteDance plans to release more mobile games on TikTok. Four people familiar with the matter said the company has begun testing in Vietnam. ByteDance will add more countries to the list in the third quarter of 2022.
A TikTok representative avoided commenting on future game plans, making the following statements;
“We’re always looking at ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new features and integrations that bring value to our community.”
Last year, ByteDance partnered with Zynga to release the mobile dance game Disco Loco 3D on TikTok. Chinese players can access to a large number of games on Douyin (the local version of TikTok) since 2019, while US users have access to a minimal number of games.
While TikTok’s main focus is on HTML5 games, a source told Reuters that the company plans to bring more different games to its app in the future.
More companies are now trying to add gaming features to their mobile apps, including Snapchat, where people can run simple games, and Netflix, which has expanded its game library and bought studios.
