Digital Trends reported that Apple has acquired RAC7, the indie studio known for the Apple Arcade exclusive Sneaky Sasquatch.

This marks Apple’s first move into owning a game development studio. The acquisition aims to support the continued development of Sneaky Sasquatch and enhance Apple’s gaming offerings.

RAC7, based in Canada, gained recognition with Sneaky Sasquatch, released in 2019 as a launch title for Apple Arcade. Created by Jesse Ringrose and Jason Ennis, the game has maintained popularity through regular updates and engaging gameplay.

“We love Sneaky Sasquatch and are excited that the 2-person RAC7 team has joined Apple to continue their work on it with us. We will continue to deliver a great experience for Apple Arcade players with hundreds of games from many of the best game developers in the world.”

Apple emphasized that this move is a unique situation to support the growth of Sneaky Sasquatch on Apple Arcade, rather than a shift towards widespread studio acquisitions.

The move aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to enhance its gaming ecosystem, including plans to introduce a new gaming-focused app to replace Game Center, offering features like game launching, achievement tracking, and leaderboards.
