Blizzard has announced the return of Chris Metzen to a full-time role as Executive Creative Director of the Warcraft universe. Metzen has been working with Blizzard since last year in a Creative Advisor role on Warcraft. He was the creative director for legendary games like Warcraft III, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft II until his retirement in 2016.
World of Warcraft official X (or Twitter if you are still trying to adapt to the new name) shared the news, saying:
Citizens of Azeroth,
We are excited to share that Chris Metzen has taken on a full-time role as Executive Creative Director of the Warcraft universe. Right now, his main focus is supporting our World of Warcraft leadership in crafting the next generation of adventures.
Chris was instrumental in developing the foundations of the Warcraft universe, and we are thrilled for him to re-join our teams in shaping what’s to come.
At BlizzCon, he and the team will be sharing what we’ve been working on. We hope to see you there!”
Many Warcraft fans were not happy with the direction their beloved MMORPG took after Chris Metzen’s departure. The news was celebrated among the fans and brought hope to those who have left the land of Azeroth.
After surviving each “WoW-killer” game by its competitors for years, World of Warcraft became its own worst enemy. Most of the players were unhappy with Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands expansions and shifted to World of Warcraft Classic. Fans expect Chris Metzen to bring the title to its roots after years of cosmic power struggles and dimension hopping.
