Cooldown Games is a video game publisher focused on creating people- and business-sustainable ways to develop, publish, and play. Their mission is to curate world-class games that give a lot but only ask for a little.
In a world where live-service games demand more time than ever, Cooldown Games believes great games don’t need to consume players’ time and wallets to be successful.
Cooldown Games aims to provide players with the perfect “cooldown” experience, whether it’s chasing a new personal best in a roguelite, farming for the ideal ARPG item after raid night, or decorating a virtual town during the holidays.
These gaming moments are designed to fit into players’ lives, offering meaningful enjoyment without overwhelming demands.
With this thoughtful approach, Cooldown Games embraces a variety of gaming styles, ensuring there’s something for everyone—no matter how much or little time they have to play.
The founders of Cooldown Games
The founders share a history of collaboration at Gearbox Publishing, where Gibson served as president, overseeing the successful launch of eight games during their time there.
The founders are:
“Our team is confident rational business models will be a long-term strength of Cooldown Games and that just might be a refreshing contrast from many recent industry trends.
My passion of helping game makers reach as many game players as possible while making sure that it’s a rewarding experience for everyone involved is at the center of all of this. Let’s make some great games together.”
Steve Gibson, CEO of Cooldown Games
“Over the last five years, we all individually noticed that we’ve been gravitating away from many of the predictable new releases.
We noticed that was because most of us already have ‘forever’ games—for me and Brad that’s World of Warcraft, and for Jackson that’s DayZ—and most of these giant new releases were just asking for more than we could give.
When we started Cooldown Games, we quickly realized that there’s a ton of gamers out there just like us—and we wanted to find the best games that can fit in between our sessions, or seasons, or even just after raid night.”
Jeff Skal, Chief Marketing Officer of Cooldown Games
“Many talented developers weathered the recent industry turbulence and now more than ever seek a partner that understands their project’s vision and how it will resonate with an audience.
We are looking to work with astute and passionate teams that share our philosophy and observation about player behavior, and we can create a force-multiplying partnership on the path to release.”
Matt Charles, Chief Product Officer of Cooldown Games
The company is also on the lookout for games and developers that align with their vision. Developers seeking publishing support, development assistance, or consulting are encouraged to reach out and explore potential collaboration.
