Epic Games has introduced Epic Web Shops, a new in-game commerce solution built into its distribution and payments ecosystem. The feature enables developers to sell in-game content directly to players while integrating with Epic’s existing account and payment infrastructure.
Web Shops allow developers to sell in-game items directly to players using Epic’s global ecommerce and distribution tools. The feature is now available for PC and web games and will expand to mobile app product pages later this year. On desktop, Web Shops appear through a new “Web Shop” tab on a game’s product page.
Developers do not need to distribute their game through the Epic Games Store to publish a Web Shop. Games hosted on other platforms can also integrate the system and process transactions through Epic’s backend.
Transactions leverage Epic’s payment system and connect with existing account features such as Epic Rewards and Epic account balance (previously called Wallet balance).
Platform Rules and Steering Policies
Epic Web Shops operate under each platform’s policies regarding payment steering. In the U.S., a court injunction currently allows payment steering, making Web Shops immediately available.
On Android, enforcement of the court injunction requiring Google Play to permit steering is expected to take effect on October 22, 2025, which will enable broader adoption. Epic clarified that Web Shops will comply with Apple’s and Google’s store rules depending on the region.
Developer Terms and Revenue Model
Epic offers developers favorable terms, allowing them to keep 100% of the first $1 million in annual net revenue per title through Web Shops. After that threshold, the standard Epic Games Store revenue share applies.
Purchases made via desktop or mobile Web Shops will synchronize across versions of a game. For example, an item bought through a Web Shop on a PC can appear in the mobile version of the same game on iOS or Android.
Early Adoption and Availability
The first live Web Shop has been launched for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms by Codename Entertainment. The store supports cross-platform purchases and full integration with Epic’s account system.
Web Shops are now available globally (subject to local store regulations) for both PC and mobile titles. Developers can access the feature through the Epic Developer Portal using Epic’s self-publishing tools. For mobile titles, developers can apply via Epic’s Mobile Early Adopters Program.
