The German games industry is entering 2026 with significantly increased optimism, according to the annual industry barometer published today by game – The German Games Industry Association. After three challenging years, nearly one in three companies (29 per cent) now anticipate a positive development for the industry over the next twelve months, a sharp increase from just 17 per cent a year ago.
This burgeoning confidence is underscored by a major drop in pessimism: only 31 per cent of games companies expect a negative industry development, a notable decline from the 45 per cent recorded last year.

Looking specifically at their own operations, German games companies remain highly confident. Over half (53 per cent) expect business to be good in 2026, consistent with last year’s figure (52 per cent). Furthermore, the percentage anticipating a business downturn has slightly decreased to 12 per cent (down from 15 per cent).
Despite the overall rise in confidence, companies remain cautious in their immediate hiring plans. Approximately one-third of games companies in Germany (32 per cent) plan to hire new employees in 2026, the same percentage as in the previous year.
‘Confidence is returning to Germany’s games industry.
Following a difficult phase both here and abroad, positive signals, such as the strong gamescom 2025, and important policy initiatives, like the increased federal games funding and the announced federal tax incentives, are bringing improved prospects and greater optimism compared to a year ago.’
