Might and Magic creator Jon Van Caneghem teams up with Unfrozen as Creative Advisor on Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

Unfrozen, an international PC and console game development studio backed by GEM Capital, announced that Jon Van Caneghem, creator of the Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic series, has joined the team as Creative Advisor on the upcoming title Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.

Van Caneghem, founder of New World Computing, returns to the Heroes universe for the first time since Heroes of Might and Magic IV, bringing his legacy experience to guide the game’s creative direction and worldbuilding.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era has already gained strong traction ahead of its Early Access release, planned for later in 2026. The game ranked as the No1 most played demo during Steam Next Fest, reached over 1 million wishlists, and peaked at 24,000 concurrent players, making it the 16th most popular demo in Steam history.

Unfrozen is best known for Iratus: Lord of the Dead, a cult favorite in the turn-based RPG genre. Headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus, Unfrozen has developers who include industry veterans who have contributed to globally recognized titles such as League of Legends, Disciples, and others.

The studio is part of the portfolio of GEM Capital, a leading games investor supporting high-potential studios and platforms across Europe and the MENA region.
