Palworld, one of this year’s biggest hit games for PC and consoles, is heading to mobile. With the new agreement, KRAFTON will expand the Palworld IP to mobile platforms.
Palworld mobile will be faithfully reimagined and adapted to the mobile environment, retaining the key fun elements of the original game. The project will be developed by PUBG STUDIOS, a creative studio within KRAFTON.
What is Palworld?
Palworld is a monster-building, open-world survival crafting game launched in Early Access on 19 January 2024 on Steam and Microsoft’s video game platform Xbox. It was followed by a global launch on 25 September on PlayStation 5 (PS5) from Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).
Players can collect more than 100 different “Pal” creatures and send them to battle, build, farm, or work in factories. The game has been a huge success, selling 15 million copies cumulatively on Steam and 10 million users on Xbox within a month of launch, and becoming the third most concurrent game of all time on Steam with nearly 2.1 million players.
KRAFTON’s focus on mobile
KRAFTON is also bringing Dinkum, an open-world life simulation game created by Australian solo developer James Bendon, from PC to mobile platforms. Since its release in 2022, Dinkum has sold over one million copies and has been beloved by players worldwide.
KRAFTON will attend the international gaming exhibition G-Star 2024, held at BEXCO in Busan from 14-17 November. This marks the company’s eighth consecutive year of attendance. Dinkum Mobile will have a hands-on playable demo at the event, alongside KRAFTON’s new game for PC and consoles like inZOI and Project ARC.
Nintendo lawsuit against Palworld
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Palword developer Pocketpair, seeking compensation for damages and an injunction on the game.
Pocketpair made the following announcement after following the lawsuit:
Yesterday, a lawsuit was filed against our company for patent infringement.
We have received notice of this lawsuit and will begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement.
At this moment, we are unaware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing upon, and we have not been notified of such details.
Pocketpair is a small indie game company based in Tokyo. Our goal as a company has always been to create fun games. We will continue to pursue this goal because we know that our games bring joy to millions of gamers around the world.
Palworld was a surprise success this year, both for gamers and for us. We were blown away by the amazing response to the game and have been working hard to make it even better for our fans. We will continue improving Palworld and strive to create a game that our fans can be proud of.
It is truly unfortunate that we will be forced to allocate significant time to matters unrelated to game development due to this lawsuit. However, we will do our utmost for our fans, and to ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.
We apologize to our fans and supporters for any worry or discomfort that this news has caused.
