a16z Games, the gaming-focused investment fund, has launched SPEEDRUN, a startup school for game industry founders looking to build successful games in less time. Drawing inspiration from the speedrunning community, the program promises to provide access to innovative knowledge and guidance needed to navigate the game industry.
The six-week program starts in May with a physical event in San Francisco, followed by online and local meetups, and ends with a private demo day in Los Angeles during Tech Week in June. Game industry founders will receive mentorship from industry professionals and engage in discussions with industry luminaries like Eros Resmini, ex-Discord, Doug McCracken, ex-Supercell/Riot, Ben Feder, ex-Tencent/Take Two, and more.
Founders who participate in the program will learn the shortcuts and cutting-edge insights to build and run a successful games company, including the business of a gaming startup, building and launching games, hiring a team, fundraising, and live operations. Participants do not need to have a live product or company before applying.
a16z Games is looking for ambitious founders who have demonstrated the ability to build and deliver a game, whether they are interested in starting a company or already building. The program is designed for teams, not solo founders. A16z states that even teams who have already raised funding will benefit from the program. Applications are open until 21 April, with finalist interviews from 24 April to 28 April. More details are available on SPEEDRUN Your Gaming Startup webpage.
