Marcin Iwinski, Co-Founder and Joint-CEO at CD Projekt released an announcement today, stating that after almost 30 years at the company, he’ll be leaving his Joint-CEO role by the end of this year. Polish game maker also said that he’ll submit his candidacy for Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

The experienced business person and studio runner said neither Michal Kicinski nor did he see that CD Projekt would become the company it is today. Iwinski also said he’s excited for the future of the company; and how can he not be, considering how CD Projekt Red just announced five new Witcher games, a new Cyberpunk game, and a separate new IP.
Iwinski also shared the following bit in his message:
“It is thanks to that commitment and amazing talent that right now I have that same feeling I had all those years ago – hunger and optimism for what’s ahead. It really feels like this is only the beginning. Our hugely ambitious strategy has such an inspiring and strong team at the helm, and I deeply believe in our plan to take CD Projekt to new heights.
“As such, I intend to remain a major shareholder, and in my new non-executive role I will remain active and engaged dedicating my focus on supporting the entire Management Board. I will also remain connected to the core of what makes us special, which is making the best storytelling games in the world and doing right by gamers.“
This part of Iwinski’s message is arguable, since Cyberpunk 2077, the latest title of CD Projekt Red was a messy release, especially on old-gen consoles. Sony pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store back then and offered refunds to all players who purchased the game. It didn’t allow the game to be sold on PS Store until it become a playable experience without any major hiccups.
However, despite all the obstacles and setbacks, Cyberpunk 2077 did reasonably well and sold over 20 million copies since its release. In fact, the game has had a very fruitful week, recording over a million daily players on a daily basis for a while, mainly thanks to the popularity boost it has received from Netflix’s new Cyberpunk anime called Edgerunners.
Iwinski will hand over his duties to the CD Projekt Management Board before the year wraps up.
