Denuvo, owned by Irdeto, has announced an emulator protection software for Nintendo Switch. The announcement took place during Gamescom 2022 in Cologne, Germany.

The company believes that Nintendo consoles are vulnerable to piracy, which also affects PC gaming. The claims are that even though the game’s PC version is protected, pirates can crack the Nintendo version and emulate it to make it playable on PC.

The software is called Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection. Denuvo firmly states that this program will assist games in bringing higher revenue to the studios. It will ensure a safe launch for the titles, which the company believes “is the most important period in regard to monetization. In other words, with this software, if someone wants to play the game, they have to buy it.

The team has trust in their software and states, “The technology integrates seamlessly into the build toolchain with no impact on the gaming experience.”

The game community often says otherwise, as there were several issues where Denuvo software had a negative impact on the gameplay. Huge AAA titles such as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Dishonored 2 were tested without the anti-tamper software, and there was a significant performance improvement.

Reinhard Blaukovitsch, Managing Director of the company, had these comments:

“We at Denuvo understand that piracy negatively affects the game industry and are working with the industry parties to ensure they have the latest protection technologies available for them. Our team is excited to provide a solution that helps the developers and publishers to help fight the issue of Nintendo Switch piracy.”

Nintendo has a past of being very strict against piracy. Denuvo might be the solution for the Switch console, but there were times when pirates cracked the software in 4 or 5 days on the PC. Assuming everything goes swimmingly, the DRM program should maximize the protection level without harming the performance of any game.
