Game studio Nekcom, based in Wuhan, China, announced that it had raised $8 million from a new funding round. The company will use this money to accelerate game development and expand into the international market.

Galaxy Interactive led the investment round. Ryan You, who served as Galaxy Interactive De Co-Head of Gaming, joined Nekcom’s board of directors after the investment.

The company is currently working on two games in the RPG game Showa American Story and Dying series developed for PC and PS platforms. Dying: 1983 is developing for PC and PS platforms, and Dying: Reborn is developing for VR and mobile platforms, including the first two.

Some time ago, Nekcom opened a new office in the USA, and Kimmy Li was appointed CEO of Nekcom USA. According to GamesBeat, Chairman and Founder of Nekcom Xiangyu Luo said:

“The U.S. has been strategically important for Nekcom since day one, as we are focused on our high-level console and PC game development. We are excited to open our office in Manhattan, led by Kimmy Li, to drive international expansion. Our development team in China will benefit from her vast business experience as we continue development of both our Dying and Showa series.”

Kimmy Li added:

“The US has been very important for us because it has by far the most PC and console players, and they are very active gamers with active communities. Our first games launched in 2016, and the majority of gamers are from the US, and we really want to engage with the local gamers. First we established our US studio in New York City, and we’re going to focus on growing the local community, trying to get close to our gamers, get their feedback quickly, and to facilitate the game development. We’re also looking to open other studios internationally, where the talents are.”

The first region chosen by Chinese Nekcom for international expansion is the USA. The company does not want to be limited to this and is considering opening offices in other countries. After financing, Nekcom’s compass shows the international market.
