Following the global launch of Dead Island 2 on Friday 21st April, Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios have announced it has sold over 1 million copies after just three days on sale. The game was initially announced in 2014 with a release window in 2015.

Deep Silver shared the numbers for the long-awaited Dead Island 2:

11 million – total hours played
28 million – total number of player deaths (over twice the population of Los Angeles)
45 million – zombies sliced in half
756 million – zombie limbs hacked off
1.1 billion – total number of zombies slayed

Techland was initially set to develop Dead Island 2, but instead, they decided to focus on developing Dying Light with Warner Bros. Interactive. When Dead Island 2 was announced at E3 in 2014, Yager was the initial developer for the game. In July 2015, Deep Silver announced that Yager had been dropped as developer, and in March 2016, Sumo Digital was announced as the developer.

In August 2019, the development of the game changed hands to Dambuster Studios, an internal studio of Deep Silver.

Dead Island 2 is out now on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and the Epic Games Store for PC.
