India-based Giga Fun Studios receives a $2.4M investment

The company’s founders have over 25 years of experience making and managing games.

India-based Giga Fun Studios has announced raising $2.4 million in a seed investment round. Co-founded by Krishnendu Mukherjee, Rahul Daga, and Rahul Shekhar, the company aims to collaborate with people who share a mutual vision and wish to see it become a reality.

Lumikai and Fireside Ventures led the investment round with participation from Riverwalk Holdings, Kettleborough VC, and All in Capital. The studio will look to use this funding to make casual mobile titles for a worldwide audience. The executive team has over 25 years of experience working in the game industry.

Co-Founder and Head of Design, Krishnendu Mukherjee, commented:

“We have been brainstorming the idea of creating a gaming studio that caters to the Indian audience. The core problem we mutually identified was that while current dominant casual games (such as Candy Crush) are very high in quality, they haven’t been able to fully unlock an Indian player base due to a lack of cultural resonance.

“This is additionally visible in the lack of monetization participation of the Indian player. With over five billion downloads, India is one of the largest download markets for casual games. Our belief is that with the right themes and geo-specific mechanics, we will be able to crack adoption and monetization for casual games in India.”

Giga Fun Studios stated that Indian culture and lore are not represented in global-quality games, which sparked the idea of founding a studio that can focus on stories based on India. Mukherjee and Daga have previously worked for Zynga, and Shekhar held an executive position at m56 Studios.
