Klang Games announced it had raised $41 million for Seed, a multiplayer and artificial intelligence-supported virtual world. In addition, Isabelle Henriques, who had served at Electronic Arts for over five years, joined the company’s board as co-CEO.
Animoca Brands and Kingsway Capital led the investment round. Anthos, Novator, Supercell, Roosh, AngelHub, and New Life Ventures were also among the investors. With the final round of $41 million, Klang Games has raised nearly $80 million so far.
The $41 million funds will be used for Seed, which is currently in the pre-alpha stage. Seed is a virtual world with more than a game. Here, users can socialize, produce and have fun as they wish. There are artificial intelligence characters called “Seedlings” in the game, and these characters continue to “live” even if the player leaves the game. Players can also customize them.
Mundi Vondi, CEO of Klang Games, says:
“This funding not only gives us the security of knowing that we have the resources for years of development, it also shows us that people believe in our vision, which is the best motivation for us. We are so excited and honored to get this level of trust from investors. It allows us to steam ahead and really pursue the vision of our wildest dreams! If you are a developer, game designer, or just a super cool person, now is the right time to join us.”
In February 2021, Electronic Arts veteran Isabelle Henriques joined the company’s board of directors. Henriques has close to 14 years of experience in strategy and production. She also has many famous games on her resume, such as The Sims, Call of Duty, and Madden NFL.
Klang Games currently has a team of 70 people, and the company aims to increase this number to 150. CEO Vondi says they will maintain an aggressive hiring policy for the next 12 months.
Yat Siu, chairman of the board of Animoca Brands, comments on Klang Games:
“We believe that Klang Games’ combination of design and technical prowess will ensure that Seed is a successful project, and our investment reflects our confidence in the team’s vision. We are delighted to explore the future of humanity together.”
Seed is an interesting project these days when the separation of metaverse and game is discussed. The project both carries the basic features of the metaverse and brings a new perspective to the use of artificial intelligence in games. More news about Klang and Seed seems likely in the coming days.
