Nintendo and DeNa are working together on forming a new subsidiary, Nintendo Systems. The newly formed company will have the objective of strengthening the digitization of Nintendo’s business. Nintendo stated that the joint venture company will research, develop and create value-added services to reinforce Nintendo’s relationship with consumers.
Nintendo Systems will be located in Tokyo, Japan, and the company is scheduled to be established on April 3, 2023. The company will have a capital of 5 billion yen (about $34 million), 80% of which will be provided by Nintendo, and the remaining %20 by DeNa. The company will be led by Representative Director and President Tatsuya Sasaki.
In 2015, Nintendo and DeNa entered a business and capital alliance. The two companies have collaborated on Miitomo, Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Mario Kart Tour, and Pokémon Masters. Of those mobile games, Fire Emblem Heroes is the most successful.
Nintendo attempted to create mobile games with other companies as well, but they have not been as successful. Dr. Mario World made in collaboration with Line was shut down after only two years, and Dragalia Lost, made in collaboration with Cygames will shut down this November.
