California-based Now.gg has launched a mobile cloud platform for game developers called “platform-as-a-service (PaaS).” The service, which offers solutions to issues such as accessibility and monetization, is now available as a new payment platform.
While many platforms charge various fees to host games, Now.gg will offer the platform service for a small fee compared to others. Additionally, the company introduced a first-of-its-kind cloud payment and NFT-based monetization model for mobile games on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Now.gg currently hosts games like Shop Titans and Moon Forest on its platform. It is possible to say that the future of the platform is bright by looking at the opportunities it offers to developers and players.
Rosen Sharma, CEO of BlueStacks and Now.gg, said in a statement:
“The two biggest trends impacting game developers are rising customer acquisition costs, triggered by IDFA, and the boom in NFT trading volume. For example, NFT trading volume crosses $4 billion a month, which annualized, is about half of the global mobile market. That kind of traction is mind-blowing and just shows how much money is left on the table for developers, who deserve a new model. The mobile cloud greatly boosts developer margins and presents new NFT based monetization channels. We believe this will become a much larger monetization opportunity than the current in-app and app store models. This kind of developer margin and user freedom is transformative – this is the true future of gaming.”
Games are played on the Now.gg platform for close to a billion minutes a year. With the addition of cloud payments to the platform, developers can create new opportunities for players and themselves by providing players with new ways to buy and trade NFTs.
Now.gg cloud payments were developed in response to the rise in international mobile gaming popularity, low-margin app store policies, and the explosion of NFT trading. While the mobile gaming market is predicted to be $29.1 billion in 2022, only 5% of mobile gamers make in-app purchases today, leaving much money on the table for developers.
The rise of NFT and the play-to-earn model presents new initiatives and opportunities for the entire gaming industry. The number of new cloud platforms, payment and monetization methods is increasing day by day, contributing to the reshaping of the market.
