Playgama.com, a platform powering HTML5 game publishing across the web, is joining forces with GameDistribution by Azerion and the Playing for the Planet Alliance to launch the Green Web Game Jam 2025, a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed specifically at web game developers.
This new jam is teaming up with the Green Game Jam, hosted annually since 2020 by Playing for the Planet Alliance, whose members include studios like Rovio, Supercell, Microsoft, and Tencent Games.
Running from July 4–15, the jam invites web developers of all skill levels to create short, powerful games that tackle pressing ecological threats from pollution and deforestation to overconsumption and climate crisis. The goal: use game mechanics, not just stories, to inspire responsible behaviour and action.
This new initiative expands the Green Game Jam’s global reach into the web gaming ecosystem, inviting game studios, indie creators and hobbyists alike to imagine a future where ecology fights back — and games make the first move.
The three winning games will be published on GameDistribution, one of the largest B2B game distribution platforms, whose network includes more than 2,000 partner platforms. They will also be featured on the Playgama homepage, reaching millions of players worldwide.
Developers can join the jam on itch.io until July 4 inclusive
Timeline for the Green Web Game Jam 2025:
- July 4–15 – jam active period
- July 17–21 – judging process
- August 18 – publishing deadline
- September 1 – official winner showcase on GameDistribution and Playgama
The judging panel will include representatives from Playing For The Planet, Playgama, and GameDistribution, with games evaluated not just on polish or creativity, but on how well they embed environmental themes into gameplay itself.
All proceeds from this year’s Green Web Game Jam will be directed to On the Edge, the conservation-focused organisation chosen as the 2025 beneficiary by the Green Game Jam.
“The number of people playing HTML5 games is growing rapidly — already exceeding 500M users globally. With no need for downloads, web games are accessible instantly on all kinds of devices, reaching massive audiences around the globe.
Browser games consume minimal energy and extend device lifespans, making them one of the most sustainable ways to play. We are very proud to lead this initiative alongside partners to raise attention to the way we live on our planet and make significant contributions to the environment.”
Dmitry Kachmar, founder of Playgama

“With over a decade in the games industry, I’ve seen the impact games can have when purpose meets scale. The Green Web Game Jam is a unique opportunity to engage the fast-growing web developer ecosystem in creating meaningful, playable experiences. By partnering with Playgama and Playing for the Planet, we’re driving both innovation and positive change. This is something we deeply value at GameDistribution.”
Yuliya Nabieva, VP Gaming, Azerion

“We are excited to see Playgama taking their own spin on the Green Game Jam this year and look forward to seeing how the vast and diverse Playgama development community brings a range of approaches to this jam, and look forward to the innovative ideas that will come out of the first Playgama Green Web Game Jam.”
