In a new press release, Riot Games shared the announcement of its acquisition of Hypixel Studios, the developers of Hytale. Hypixel Studios is currently working on Hytale, which is a “community-powered block game that combines the scope of a creative sandbox with the depth of a roleplaying game”. Back in 2018, Hypixel came to life with the support of different investors including Riot Games. By the time of writing, Hytale has surpassed 2.5 million sign-ups for its beta. According to the developers, the full version is coming in 2021.

Riot Games knew the team for several years

As we mentioned, League of Legends developers helped in the founding of Hypixel Studios. In the press release, Dylan Jadeja, President of Riot Games said the following:

Over the last 18 months, we’ve been fortunate to advise Hypixel Studios as they build toward their vision for evolving a game genre that reaches an incredibly diverse range of players around the globe. Now, as they prepare to enter the next chapter. We’re thrilled to take our partnership to the next level through this acquisition. We look forward to supporting Hypixel Studios’ journey through the development process, helping them grow, and learning from them as well.

The purchase will allow Hypixel to leverage Riot’s experience in development and publishing although the company will retain its current structure while continuing to operate as an independent entity. Commenting on the acquisition, Collins-Laflamme, Co-founder of Hypixel Studios said the following:

Riot’s been an important partner from the start and this is a natural next step in our relationship. It’ll help the studio take another leap forward in our journey from mod team to professional developers, and allows the team to realize our vision for Hytale.

The studio will grow

Hypixel Studios will establish an office in Northern Ireland. It will act as a base for back-office functions and quality assurance. Also, this will open 20 new positions in these areas, with further growth expected while Hytale development continues.
