Xbox prices will not rise to match PlayStation’s price increase

Microsoft currently has no plans for a price raise on the Xbox.

A spokesperson from Microsoft has confirmed that they will not join the likes of Sony and Meta for a price increase in hardware. Earlier this year, Meta Quest 2 prices had gone up by $100, and Sony also decided to rearrange the PlayStation prices depending on regions and different editions of the hardware.

It’ll be a sigh of relief for Xbox fans as Microsoft has decided not to join this bandwagon. Recently, Nintendo had also taken the decision to keep the Switch prices the same, even though the semiconductor shortage for the hardware continues.

The decision from Microsoft will apply to both Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. Series S is the more affordable version of the two. In comparison, Series X brings in more firepower with advanced graphics hardware and higher resolution support of up to 4K alongside other benefits.

According to the news from Windows Central, the Microsoft spokesperson used these words to explain the situation:

“We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options. Our Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains at $299 (£250, and €300), the Xbox Series X remains at $499 (£450, €500).”

While announcing the price increase, Sony did state that this was the cause of high global inflation and adverse currency trends. Even though companies like Microsoft and Nintendo compete head to head with Sony in the same market, the pricing protocol remains unchanged for now.

It’s important to note that even though Microsoft will not go through with a price hike in the short term, this is not a guarantee for the long run. The company might still decide to increase the prices when they feel that the time is right. For now, Xbox will remain at the same price as it has been since 2020.
