The Call of Duty franchise, which is loved by many players around the world, is an Activision product, and there is a fan base that eagerly awaits each new game in the series. Activision wants to keep up with the requirements of the era and continue its popular series on the mobile platform. To that end, the company recently announced that it has acquired Barcelona-based mobile game developer Digital Legends. The new broadcast team in the acquired company will work on an as-yet unannounced mobile Call of Duty project.

It was not disclosed how much Activision bought Digital Legends. Digital Legends previously released a more realistic game called Afterpulse, reminiscent of Call of Duty, as well as a shooter with cartoony graphics called The Respawnables. The company’s history in shooter games indicates that Activision’s purpose in the purchase is a new mobile Call of Duty. At the same time, Activision, which continues to incorporate independent game studios, continues its expansion in the mobile sector.

Chris Plummer, head of mobile at Activision, said in a statement:

“Digital Legends’s tenure developing highly-polished mobile titles is unparalleled. More importantly though, our teams already have been collaborating very closely for much of this year.”

Afterpulse by Digital Legends is a successful mobile shooter.

It is considered that the first work of Digital Legends under Activision will be a new mobile Call of Duty game. On the other hand, it is not yet known whether this new game will be related to the already existing Call of Duty: Mobile. Looking at Plummer’s statement, it seems that the new team has already been working with Activision for a while.

Digital Legends CEO and Founder, Xavier Carrillo-Costa, expressed his excitement at the company’s acquisition of Activision:

“Becoming part of the Activision family is an exciting time for us at Digital Legends. The addition of our team with years of expertise in high-quality mobile titles for mobile composed by industry veterans and emerging talent will only bolster Activision’s growing mobile talent pool. We’re very excited for the opportunity to work on one of the greatest franchises in the world.”

As can be understood from the explanations, the integration process will be quite easy for the team that has been working together for a while. According to the statement made by Digital Legends, the team will work with Beenox, Activision Shanghai on the Call of Duty project, and the game will be developed by Solid State, Activision’s new internal studio.
