The new title in the Call of Duty franchise has become the top-selling game in the series for the first three days after the launch. The game broke the record set by 2011’s Modern Warfare 3, which amassed $775 million in five days.
It took 16 days for Modern Warfare 3 to break the $1 million milestone. Activision stated that Modern Warfare 2 surpassed the box office opening revenues of Top Gun: Maverick and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness combined. This is quite a feat, considering that both Top Gun and Marvel universes are extremely popular.
CEO of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick, showed appreciation for the team behind the title with these sentences:
“Thank you to our talented team that has created magic through extraordinary artistry and technology, and to the global community of players who find joy and connection through Call of Duty. This milestone belongs to them.”
The official Call of Duty Twitter page shared a thank you message to its community:
Although the campaign received well enough reviews, many technical issues were reported on the multiplayer end. The game ended up receiving mixed reviews on Steam in the first few days, with 55% out of 34,810 user reviews being positive. Modern Warfare 2 is available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC.
