BlizzCon will return physically in 2023, as noted by gamesindustry.biz, revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times today by Blizzard president Mike Ybarra.
The famous BlizzCon, where Blizzard fans attend various events yearly, couldn’t take place like many significant events due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Blizzard president Mike Ybarra confirmed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that BlizzCon would return next year, adding:
“We previously announced we’re taking a pause on BlizzCon while we reimagine it for the future but do want to return to a live event that enables us to celebrate the community. We recently hired a new leader of BlizzCon, April McKee, who is hard at work on that plan. We are committed to bringing back BlizzCon in 2023.”
Hired in February 2022, April McKee is an executive producer at the company. McKee, who served as the director of Microsoft’s Xbox Gaming department in the past, is an experienced name who has spent 23 years of his career at Microsoft.
Recently, big names such as Sony, Take-Two, Nintendo, and Activision Blizzard have announced that they will not attend the upcoming Gamescom event. In addition, ESA has confirmed that the E3 event will return in 2023.
We hope that these events, which are of great importance for the industry, will continue to take place as they do every year. The pandemic has caused people to miss such events a lot.
