Cocos Technology announced that it had raised $50 million from its Series B funding round. The game engine, which is mostly used to produce 2D mobile games, is used by approximately 1.4 million developers.
The games developed with the Cocos Engine have approximately 1.6 billion players. Among the games created with Cocos2dx is Masomo‘s Head Ball game. The $50 million investment will develop the open-source Cocos Engine. Cocos Technology aims to develop the engine to be used more widely in other industries.
The game engine called Cocos Creator is a cross-platform digital content development tool. Released in May 2021 in cooperation with Huawei, Cocos Creator 3.1 is used by companies such as Tencent, NetEase, Ubisoft, and Nintendo. Cocos is used in games that make up approximately 40% of the Chinese mobile game market.
Many investors such as CCB Trust, GGV Capital, and Agora participated in the investment round. Beijing-based Cocos was founded in 2010, and Cocos Engine has been used in areas such as XR, automobile, home design, architecture, engineering, and the game industry to this day.
