Playground Games’ ex-Creative Director, Mike Brown, has announced the formation of a new AAA game development studio named Maverick Games. The new entity defines itself as a “developer-first studio, an environment where talented individuals are nurtured, inspired, and flourish.”
Mike Brown leads Maverick’s founding team as Creative Director and Studio Head. The remaining executive team is Harinder Sangha as COO, Matt Craven as CTO, Gareth Harwood as Content Director, and Fraser Strachan as Audio Director. Ben Penrose and Elly Marshall complete the leadership team as Art Director and UX/UI Director, respectively.
Maverick Games is currently working on its first title, a AAA open-world game for the console and PC space. The UK-based studio looks to adopt a forward-looking culture where developers are supported and empowered.
Mike Brown made comments on the new studio:
“Our goal is for Maverick Games to be a studio people will love. For players, we’re already at work on an exciting ultra-high-quality title, and for developers, we’re building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all – be a Maverick.”
Maverick stated that it has secured significant seed funding and is currently recruiting for roles from graduate to lead across all disciplines. The studio includes some of the leaders behind the popular Forza Horizon series, which proves to be an experienced executive team.
