VoIP and instant messaging social platform Discord rolls out the ability to send Voice Messages in DMs, GDMs, and servers with fewer than 200 members on mobile. At launch, Voice Messages can be created and sent from mobile, and all platforms will be able to play them.
Users can record a voice message by clicking the new microphone icon next to the emoji button. By releasing the button, the voice message will immediately be sent. There is also a slide and lock option for users who want to avoid pressing the icon. Voice recordings can be up to 20 minutes long.
Server Moderators and Admins may use the new “Send Voice Messages” permission to allow their members to send Voice Messages in particular Text channels or only allow certain Roles to send Voice Messages.
The ability to create Voice Messages is rolling out to mobile starting today, and everyone on mobile, desktop and web will be able to listen to them.
Discord had brought voice chat to Xbox and is supported by Xbox Series X and S, as well as the older generation Xbox One variations. Discord also introduced Activities feature that brings watch parties and games to the app. Activities are available on the desktop or via the web browser with just one click of the Rocket Ship button, although the feature is not accessible on the mobile app yet. While watch parties are free to access, Discord states that only one game will be free-to-play, a mini-golf game called Putt Party.
