GDC Summer was supposed to replace the original Game Developers Conference after it got cancelled in March due to COVID-19. We got the planned virtual talks as live streams. We were also expecting GDC to come back this August, however, the plans changed again due to COVID-19. After monitoring the situation closely, the team behind the event announced that GDC Summer will be fully digital. This is probably the best and safest decision to take during these tough days.
GDC Summer All-digital will on the 4th of August till the 6th
Dates didn’t change, it will start on the 4th of August as planned before but it will be digital instead of physical. In the announcement on Game Developers Conference website, the team said the following:
As so many game developers embrace remote working arrangements and online collaboration, we’re inspired to adapt and deliver GDC in a digital format that will be available to everyone with an internet connection, and will work hard to deliver the high-quality content and networking opportunities GDC attendees have come to expect.
The organization promised innovative sessions and roundtables alongside high-quality technical talks for the physical event. We don’t really know much about GDC Summer but we expect the same things such as talks from experts. More info about the digital coming soon according to the announcement. Keep an eye on Mobidictum!
2020 is the year of digital events
This year, we heard the cancellation news of most events and conferences because of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Now, every event is going digitally and many saw great success on their first try. The games industry is also seeing a rise while everyone is in isolation. Therefore, we think GDC Summer All-digital will be successful too. As we said above, we will share the news with you as soon as we hear something. In the meantime, stay safe!
