According to Sensor Tower’s latest report, mobile games based on J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter IP now generated over $1 billion in lifetime revenue across App Store and Google Play. Considering how Sensor Tower’s data doesn’t include revenue from third-party Android stores (meaning China and a few other regions aren’t covered), it’s safe to guess that the IP must have accumulated even more revenue from player spending.

Per the report, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery from Jam City is the top revenue-generator with a $401 million all-time income. The role-playing game was released in April 2018; lets players create their own Hogwarts students and experience life at the wizarding school, where the majority of Harry Potter IP takes place.
Hogwarts Mystery is followed by Harry Potter: Magic Awakened (NetEase) with $358 million, however, this title is only available in a few select markets. The main market for Magic Awakened is China, where the game generated nearly 91% of its lifetime revenue. Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are other markets the game was released in.
The other two games are Harry Potter: Puzzles & Speels (Zynga) which generated $218 million, and Harry Potter Wizards Unite which earned a$40 million (Niantic).
The US is the most popular market for Harry Potter mobile games
Given the popularity of the Harry Potter IP in the western markets, seeing the United States topping the revenue charts shouldn’t come as a surprise, but here Mobidictum once again would like to underline that the data doesn’t include third-party Android stores, and Google Play isn’t available in China.
The United States is the number one market for Harry Potter mobile games; generating nearly $375 million (36.6% of total revenue). China comes second with $324.3 million (31.6%), followed by Germany with $51.6 million (5%).
Sensor Tower says App Store brought in $683 million of the total revenue (roughly 66.6%), while Google Play earned $342.5 million (33.4%). Having said that, when China is excluded App Store revenue makes up 51% of total revenue, while 49% comes from Google Play.
Per the report, Harry Potter mobile games were downloaded over 156 million times worldwide across App Store and Google Play. The US ranks number one in downloads as well, followed by China again, but the third place sees Brazil on this chart.
Google Play generated 54% of the total downloads for Harry Potter games with 84.5 million installs, and App Store saw 46% or approximately 72 million downloads.
While the Harry Potter IP can generate millions of downloads and earn Portkey Games a decent amount, it has seen a 32% decrease year-over-year during the first three financial quarters of 2022.
