One of Nintendo’s most popular mobile games, Mario Kart Tour, tops $200 million in lifetime revenue and reaches a total amount of 200 million downloads on both Google Play Store and the App Store.

About Mario Kart Tour

Mario Kart Tour is a kart racing game which was released in 2019 by Nintento. It is a free-to-play game that has achieved many successful milestones since it came out. In the first 11 days from its release, it reached over 100 million total downloads with $17.8 million revenue. Thanks to the Gold Pass, which is a subscription for $4.99 USD per month, the game offered several in-game benefits to its players and as a result, it also increased Mario Kart Tour’s revenue to $100 million within the first six months.

Details of the Sensor Tower’s report

According to Sensor Tower’s report, Mario Kart Tour became Nintendo’s second largest revenue-generating game last year. While 63.4% of this revenue comes from the App Store, 36.6% of the total revenue is from Google Play Store. The game also takes place as the second most revenue-generating mobile racing game in the United States. On the other hand, the United States has taken the first place in terms of total amount of downloads with 37.4 million, in other words, 18.6% of the total global downloads. Total revenue list continues with Japan as #2 with 28% of global player spending and France as #3 with 7.3%.  Therefore, Mario Kart Tour is currently fourth in the ranking list of top grossing mobile racing games worldwide.

Craig Chapple, Sensor Tower’s EMEA mobile insights strategist, says; 

“While Mario Kart Tour has not been able to sustain the highs of its big launch, it has maintained a fairly consistent revenue stream, generating $7.7 million on average per month globally over the last year. The title is an example of the power of big IP in generating launch buzz, particularly important with the looming IDFA changes.”
