Funding rounds have taken a new form in the world of NFT and the metaverse. This news is one of them. In this round, called the token round, Metaplex sold $46 million worth of tokens.

The token round was co-led by venture firms Multicoin Capital and Jump Crypto, with additional participation from Solana Ventures, Alameda Research, and Animoca Brands. More than 90 people attended the sale, including NBA legends Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson.

The token round will enable the Metaplex Foundation, which supports the development of the Metaplex protocol, to expand its support to metaverse and gaming applications from this year. According to the company, as the initial protocol for NFT, Metaplex has been used to create over 5.7 million digital collections for 85,000 projects.

Metaplex launched the NFT market on Solana in June 2021 with the support of cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The platform aims to provide infrastructure to the emerging and promising NFT community. The NFT market, which reached 17 billion dollars in 2021, is expected to grow further.
