Microsoft to launch Xbox mobile game store in July

Microsoft’s own mobile store will create an alternative to Apple and Google.

Industry giant Microsoft announced the launch of the Xbox Mobile Games App Store at the Bloomberg Technology Summit. According to Bloomberg’s report, Xbox President Sarah Bond said the Xbox mobile game store will launch this July.

The store will launch with Microsoft’s own games, like Candy Crush, Call of Duty: Mobile, Minecraft, and other games from studios like Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, and many more.

Microsoft’s plan to launch its mobile game store has been known for a while. The topic first surfaced when Microsoft’s submission to UK Competition and Markets Authority regulators was made public.

The company previously stated that Microsoft had no meaningful presence in mobile gaming, and the Activision Blizzard acquisition would bring much-needed expertise in mobile game development, marketing, and advertising.

Fee charges by Apple and Google have been a hot topic in recent months, escalated by Apple’s termination of Epic’s developer account. Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney stated that Apple and Google Play taking a 30% revenue sharing cut was too much, and 8% was sufficient enough to run any digital storefront profitably.
