During social distancing, multiplayer mobile games are in high demand. People are looking for a different way to stay entertained and closed with their friends. According to App Annie’s latest report, March 2020 saw significant demand for multiplayer gaming apps. Games like Roblox, Call of Duty: Mobile, Mario Kart Tour, Words With Friends 2, and Magic tiles 3 boosted global downloads from March 22-28 2020. Furthermore, the week of March 22 was the biggest week for mobile game downloads which reached 1.2 billion.

Coronavirus boosted multiplayer mobile games

According to the company’s report, 2020 started with a strong surge in downloads of games. It’s expected because downloads generally increase following the holiday season. The last week of March for the mobile games industry as it saw a 30 percent rise from the average of the weeks prior in 2020. In the Chinese market, Tencent‘s Game for Peace and Honour of Kings were number one and two respectively. In France, Moon Active’s Coin Master got the first place while Netmarble’s The Seven Deadly Sins was second.

PUBG Mobile and Minecraft dominated the South Korean market. Zynga’s New Words with Friends was number one in USA and UK followed by Roblox.

Played games are different in each region

People around the world don’t play the same genre of type of games. For example, the top five multiplayer mobile games were casual in UK. Other markets as mentioned above was a mix between casual and core games. US and France were the only markets that featured a casino game in their top five rankings. That’s why it’s always important to check the audience for the game you are planning to develop.
