Netflix aims to expand in the video game industry and wants to hire an executive to oversee this process. This is seen as a sign that the Netflix platform wants to go beyond movies and TV shows.
According to the information provided by The Information, it is said that Netflix has applied to experienced managers of the gaming industry to join their company. Although the company has created a game with the theme of “Stranger Things” with an external developer, it aims to increase its investments in this sector. It is said to be an option Netflix is currently considering. This option could be to offer a game package similar to Apple Arcade, which is Apple’s online subscription offering.
Netflix has not fully confirmed its interest in offering gaming products, but told Polygon that it’s exciting to do more with interactive games. Netflix’s statement on this subject is as follows:
“Our members value the variety and quality of our content. That’s why we are constantly expanding our offering, from documentaries to movies and TV shows, from local language originals to reality shows. Members also include Bandersnatch and You v. Interactive content is loved by Netflix
Interactive content refers to TV series and movies where viewers can choose what happens next. For example, Bandersnatch is the first interactive show Netflix has aired.
As IGN points out, Netflix is already hosting a lot of game-based content, including Dota, Castlevania, and The Witcher. He also produces other TV shows based on games like Magic: The Gathering and League of Legends. Additionally, Stranger Things and Stranger Things 3: The Game are already playable by users on other platforms.
Netflix will need much more than that to convince gamers and convince them to pay a monthly fee to access a game collection or a package that offers both games and TV content.
