The hardware giant Nvidia unveiled the latest version of its AI-powered real-time frame generation technology, DLSS 3.0, and at first glance, the results seem extremely impressive. The hardware maker used CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 as a showcase, highlighting scenes from the Night City where the game takes place.

The US-based tech company promises up to a 4x performance boost with the new RTX 40 series GPUs combined with DLSS 3.0, however, the results shared by Nvidia should be taken with a grain of salt, as there’s usually no harmony between the actual engineers and marketing teams.

The performance boost with DLSS 3.0 comes along with the new architecture dubbed NVIDIA Ada Lovelace. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said, “DLSS is one of our best inventions and has made real-time ray tracing possible. DLSS 3 is another quantum leap for gamers and creators,” and added, “Our pioneering work in RTX neural rendering has opened a new universe of possibilities where AI plays a central role in the creation of virtual worlds.”

Nvidia’s official press release says the following about the upcoming version of the DLSS upgrade:

“Powered by new fourth-generation Tensor Cores and a new Optical Flow Accelerator on GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs, DLSS 3 is the latest iteration of the company’s critically acclaimed Deep Learning Super Sampling technology and introduces a new capability called Optical Multi Frame Generation.”

Over 35 games and applications will support Nvidia’s DLSS 3.0. Both Unreal Engine 4 and 5, and Unity will support the powered-up technology. Alongside the engine providers, the following list of games will offer support for DLSS 3.0:

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
  • Atomic Heart
  • Black Myth: Wukong
  • Bright Memory: Infinite
  • Chernobylite
  • Conqueror’s Blade
  • Cyberpunk 2077
