PixelOpus, a game studio owned by Sony, famous for creating games like “Entwined” and “Concrete Genie” has announced its closure. The studio announced it on Twitter and thanked players for supporting their work, stating that their adventure had ended. As they look to new futures, they are grateful for the millions of passionate players who supported their mission to make beautiful, imaginative games with heart.
Sony confirmed the closure in a statement to IGN, mentioning that PixelOpus will officially shut down on June 2. The statement explained that PlayStation Studios regularly evaluates its portfolio and the status of studio projects to ensure they meet the organization’s short and long-term strategic objectives. The decision to shut down PixelOpus was made as part of a recent review process.
PixelOpus was established in 2014 as a new in-house studio for Sony Interactive Entertainment. The studio released “Concrete Genie” in 2019, which was well-received by players. The studio will still shut down despite reportedly working on a new PS5 game with Sony Pictures Animation. However, “Concrete Genie” will remain available on the PlayStation Store. On the other hand, Studio members have shared their sentiments on social media, expressing their sadness over losing a great team and project.
