Scopely announced the acquisition of Scottish video game developer and publisher Tag Games. The Dundee-based company is known for its mobile games like Pocket Mortys and Angry Birds Action. Tag Games was one of the studios that Scopely had invested in in previous years. With the acquisition, more than 60 employees will join Scopely in Scotland.
In the announcement, Scopely said, “Scopely is highly committed to building game teams with incredible talent density, inviting the world’s best game makers to create together! Both internal Scopely Studios and partner studios benefit from Scopely’s publishing infrastructure, operating system, and proprietary technology platform Playgami, which offers a range of products, enabling teams to create games players love and grow them as great businesses.”
Founded in 2006 by Paul Farley, Jamie Bryan, and Robert Henning, Tag Games recently celebrated its 17th anniversary. The company has released more than 50 games since its founding.
Scopely has been investing in and acquiring studios for some time. The US-based company acquired the popular mobile game Stumble Guys from Kitka Games, invested 20 million dollars in Burlingame Studios, and acquired GSN Games from Sony for $1 billion.
Savvy Games Group, wholly owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) acquired Scopely for $4.9 billion in April.
