It was announced that the games on Snapchat, one of the largest social media platforms, have reached more than 200 million players in the last two years. In the system called “minis”, games can be played and HTML5 based mini-applications can be used.
Approximately 30 million users play games on Snapchat each month. Overall, Snapchat has over 500 million monthly active users. Snap claims its app is available on 1 out of every 2 phones in the US and around 40% of the Snap community is outside of North America and Europe. On the other hand, it is stated that the number of daily active Snapchat users in India has increased by more than 100% year on year in the last five quarters.
More than 30 games have been released on Snapchat over the past few years. His current partner, Voodoo, plans to release five more games on Snapchat this year, in addition to previous hits like Hole.io and Crowd City. Voodoo’s Aquapark IO, a waterslide game, was launched last fall and has reached over 45 million players on Snapchat.
It’s been five years since Snap bought Bitstrips for $100 million. More than 200 million users now use Bitmoji every day, and the Bitmoji avatars created can also be used in games on Snapchat. Snap’s Head of Brand and Gaming Partnerships, John Imah, said at the company’s inaugural presentation that Bitmoji players spend twice as much time as non-gamers.
Snap and Unity partnership
Snap has partnered with Unity so that Bitmoji avatars can be brought to mobile phones, computers, and console games by game developers through the Unity platform. John Imah said about this partnership:
“Bitmoji for Games is coming to the Unity platform. Developers can deepen engagement and customization in mobile, PC, and console games for their players. Our Unity plug-in enables some of the world’s most creative minds to bring 3D Bitmoji to player experiences.”
