The company was founded this year and is comprised of highly experienced individuals from game industry giants like Riot Games, Google, Blizzard, Obsidian, and CCP Games.
Sprocket plans to use this budget to form a strong team around its first title. The team also believes in having a strict code regarding diversity and inclusion within the company. The new firm will also focus on better, more detailed side benefits when it comes to topics like healthcare.
The company’s owners are Josiah Kiehl, Jo Graylock, Nicolas Tittley, and Reina Sweet, all with previous ties to Riot Games. With a lot of expertise in the online multiplayer game genre, the team started working immediately on the first ever Sprocket-developed game.
The funding came from companies such as Bitkraft Ventures, Gaingels, 1Up Ventures, and Substrate. Sprocket’s CEO Josiah Kiehl had this to say about the studio’s development process and future goals:
“Sprocket Games is a developer-focused studio created to set a new standard for how we care for and empower game developers, both culturally and technologically. Our goal is to give devs the creative space they need to take risks and make truly innovative and amazing games. Many top-tier game developers in the industry are under-supported, marginalized, and under-appreciated. Sprocket will provide developers opportunities they weren’t afforded at previous studios, creating a better, safer environment that serves as a stable platform for moonshot after moonshot.”
The company envisions bringing back the “Fun, engaging adventures with friends” that is at the center of many fan-favorite games today.
