Mobile game giant Supercell announced it had invested another $37 million in Space Ape Games, famous for its Beatstar game. After the investment, Supercell’s share in Space Ape Games increased to 75%.
In 2017, Supercell bought 62.6% of Space Ape Games for $56.6 million. The success of the Beatstar game prompted Supercell to make another investment in Space Ape Games.
Beatstar was released worldwide in August 2021 and has generated more than $60 million in revenue to date. It was also awarded “Game of the Year” at the Mobile Game Awards 2022. The game combines music, rhythm, and fun. It has been downloaded over 10 million times on Google Play and has a top rating of 4.8 on the App Store.
On the matter, John Earner, Founder and CEO of Space Ape Games, said:
“The faith and respect that Supercell has shown us over the years has been awesome. They have truly supported us in chasing our ambitions in a way that has allowed us to flourish, and this renewed investment will set the stage for a new era at Space Ape; in many ways we are still at the beginning of a greater journey.”
Supercell Investment Lead Jaakko Harlas added:
“We couldn’t be more impressed with Space Ape’s team, their culture and their ability to make innovative and incredibly fun games like Beatstar.”
The fact that Beatstar is the most revenue-generating music-themed game in the world paved the way for collaborations with many artists. Famous names like Shakira, Black Eyed Peas, and David Guetta have some of their new songs released on Beatstar a few days before their full release.
Supercell owns world-famous mobile games such as Clash of Clans, Boob Beach, Brawl Stars, Hay Day, and many more. The company is affiliated with the Chinese game giant Tencent. Operating in the game industry since 2010, Supercell’s game and studio portfolio continues to expand day by day.
