Deemed “the Oscars for gaming world” by the New York Times, The Game Awards is just around the corner, set to be held in the Microsoft Theater on December 8. The award show in 2022 will be the ninth iteration, as it has been going on annually since 2014.

The program is set to celebrate the best in the game industry this year, with categories such as Best Narrative, RPG, Mobile Game, VR Game, and many more. Last year, the collaboration between Hazelight Studios and Electronic Arts brought in the elusive Game of the Year award, as It Takes Two managed to win.

In the Mobile Games category, miHoYo’s Genshin Impact was the award-winner last year. The 2021 show had a free livestream across 40 digital platforms, such as YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok Live, and Instagram Live. It was marked as one of the biggest livestream events on the internet. The previous owners of the Game of the Year awards are as follows:

  • 2014 – Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • 2015 – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • 2016 – Overwatch
  • 2017 – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • 2018 – God of War
  • 2019 – Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  • 2020 – The Last of Us Part 2
  • 2021 – It Takes Two

The Game Awards 2022 is set to harbor some of the most prominent names in gaming with a musical performance from The Game Awards Orchestra. The show’s host will once again be the Founder and Producer of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley. The in-person tickets are out now and can be accessed here.
