The Grammy Awards have announced the 65th Grammy nominees as Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media category has also found its contenders. The category will house a competition between five popular titles:
- Aliens: Fireteam Elite, by Austin Wintory
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarök, by Stephanie Economou
- Call Of Duty: Vanguard, by Bear McCreary
- Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, by Richard Jacques
- Old World, by Christopher Tin
Video game soundtrack nominations were allowed for the past 23 years, albeit they didn’t have their own category. In 2011, the main theme from Civilization 4, Baba Yetu, won the Best Instrumental Arrangement award. One year later, the soundtrack of the unusual indie adventure game Journey also entered the contest with a nomination.
In a statement, EA’s President of Music, Steve Schnur, had these comments about this year’s new category of the Grammy Awards:
“Overlooked and underappreciated. Not just for the level of quality, but also the magnitude of success, and how relevant it is to the next generation of music lovers. We needed to convince the powers-that-be that this music stands on its own and deserves to be judged against each other.”
The Grammy Awards congratulated all the nominees for the 65th iteration of the award show and shared a complete list of the contenders on its official Twitter page.
The 65th installment of The Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 5, 2023.
