THQ Nordic has announced the formation of a new studio named Campfire Cabal. The new assembly will operate from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Campfire Cabal will act as an independent studio within THQ Nordic. The team is comprised of highly experienced industry veterans that worked in massive titles such as Expeditions: Rome, the Hitman series, and Hunt: Showdown.

THQ Nordic is a subsidiary of the giant Embracer Group, and Embracer has also announced the news on its official Twitter page with these kind words:

“Our friends at THQ Nordic are proud to announce the foundation of Campfire Cabal. The Copenhagen-based studio formed by industry veterans will specialize in high-quality, narrative-driven RPGs. A warm welcome to all new colleagues.”

Creative Director Jonas Wæver will lead the studio, and the team will focus on creating high-quality, narrative-driven RPGs. The announcement also mentions that a new project is in the works but cannot be publicly disclosed for now.

Jonas Wæver was previously the Creative Director of Logic Artists, another Denmark-based studio behind the Expedition games. The studio shut down after a merger with Dynasty Studios was made to create NFT games. Wæver had previously commented on this topic with these words:

“Not everyone who worked on Expeditions: Rome will join Dynasty. The Expeditions series has been owned by THQ Nordic since before Rome began development. The creation of Dynasty will not affect the support of Rome nor the DLC plans. As for Dynasty, I can’t really talk about that because I have nothing to do with it.”

The team at Logic Artists has gone their separate ways, it seems. For diehard RPG fans, though, Campfire Cabal is definitely a studio to keep in mind.
